Αγαπητοί Αναγνώστες,
Καλωσήρθατε στη δεύτερη έκδοση του περιοδικού μας και ευχαριστώ όλους όσους είχαν την καλοσύνη να μας σχολιάσουν την Ά έκδοση.

Μολονότι ήταν πρόθεσή μου να γράψω για τον Ακάμα αυτή τη φορά, θέλω πολύ να σας μιλήσω για κάτι άλλο. Κι επειδή ο Ακάμας - δυστυχώς - θα είναι μαζί μας ως πρόβλημα για κάποιο καιρό ακόμα, ενώ η άλλη εμπειρία για την οποία θα γράψω θα χάσει στο μεταξύ την επικαιρότητα της, θα προτιμήσω τη δεύτερη.

Hot Greenhouse Summer Launched

This past month has been particularly eventful and intense for Terra Cypria as well as for Cypriot environmental affairs in general. With Akamas on fire (we will be dedicating our next issue to this "hot" subject), followed by the unprecedented forest fire destruction more recently, the discourse on the direction of development in Cyprus is at centre stage. Meanwhile, a civil society in its infancy is asked to deal with burning issues such as environmental justice, renewable energy, sustainable development and protecting biodiversity at a time when the acquisition of wealth at any cost is gaining the status of national obsession.

Ανανεώσιμες Πηγές Ενέργειας στην Κύπρο

Η Οδηγία 2001/77/ΕΕ προβλέπει μεταξύ άλλων, την παραγωγή 6% της ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας από Ανανεώσιμες Πηγές Ενέργειας (ΑΠΕ) μέχρι το 2010 και υιοθετήθηκε στην Κύπρο με τον Νόμο 33(I)2003. Ο Νόμος προνοεί την δημιουργία ταμείου κινήτρων για ΑΠΕ που χρηματοδοτείται από τέλος κατανάλωσης ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος 0.13 σεντ/ΚWh (ανά κιλοβατώρα). Η παραγωγή ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος προς πώληση από ΑΠΕ μπορεί να γίνει κυρίως με ανεμογεννήτριες (αιολική ενέργεια) ή με φωτοβολταϊκά συστήματα (ηλιακή ενέργεια) και μέχρι στιγμής το κόστος εγκατάστασης των φωτοβολταϊκών είναι πολύ ψηλό για να υιοθετηθεί ευρέως. περισσότερα/read in English...

No sooner had the International Conflict Resolution program been successfully completed, than Terra Cypria Foundation held its own bi-communal seminar/workshop on 23-24 of June and we understand that three more UNDP programs have already been scheduled.

Opening Channels of Communication

The first International Civil Society Fair, which took place 3-5 May was a groundbreaking event for Cypriot civil society. It provided an unprecedented forum for direct communication between the public and NGOs, as well as a great and much-needed opportunity for networking between NGOs from both communities.
